Dedicated Colonists of various ethnic backgrounds all hoping for religious freedom settled here shortly after its founding in 1733. Today, Savannah is proud of its diversity and is evident throughout the city by the many beautiful churches, circa 1800's, each with exceptional architectural design and history. A special tour of churches and sanctuaries can be arranged for your group.
Personalized Tours of Savannah recognizes and credits several of the early groups for their contributions to the city development and is happy to design a tour especially with your needs in mind. A few of those arriving in the 1700's were the Salzburgers, Jews, Scots, African Americans and Irish Americans. Now, with a large Gay community, diversity continues and blends well.
You will "kvell" touring Savannah's extended Jewish heritage from the first Jewish Colonists to the present, and tour the many significant points of interest from the Revolutionary War era to the present.
African Americans have played a significant role in the city, and their legacy is seen by several Civil War era churches, institutions and historic cottages from the 18th and 19th century.
Thanks to the Irish Catholics, every March 17th is a daylong party in Savannah. While not a good day for touring due to the enormous amount of people during the 3-4 hr. parade, it is an experience to see, but remember to book your hotel reservation far in advance.
In May, the Scottish Games is held with a weekend event of heritage games and special church service along with men wearing kilts and blowing bagpipes.
Savannah has wonderful museums, and art and antique shops. Your guide will direct you to the best or create a special shopping package for you.
AVAILABLE FOR INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP TOURS. OPEN DAILY AND CHRISTMAS DAY BY RESERVATION.
